JVC GR-D775 miniDV DIGITAL CAMCORDER

[
Exposure control Every digital camcorder has a fully automatic mode that lets you simply point and shoot but it's best to be able to adjust your exposure setting a little. Special shooting modes for capturing subjects lit by a spotlight or other specific sources can be helpful. For full control over exposure you'll need a camera that lets you manually set both the aperture and the shutter speed. Advanced camcorders offer zebra stripes which highlight overexposed areas with a striped pattern so that you can fine-tune exposure. Low-light performance is the Achilles' heel of many digital camcorders. Look for a model with a minimum lux rating of seven or lower. Many camcorders offer special low-light shooting modes but they don't all work the same way. Some simply slow down the shutter speed so that you get full-color but impressionistic-looking footage. Others use an infrared emitter to capture greenish monochrome video in total darkness. LCD and electronic viewfinder info More pixels usually mean better viewfinder and LCD image quality. Look for a sharp LCD that's easy to see in bright light; adjustable screen brightness helps too. The larger the LCD the easier it will be to see (and the more power-hungry it will be); for all but ultracompact camcorders look for at least 2.5 inches. An EVF that you can tilt with a diopter lever for adjusting focus will give you more shooting flexibility. Almost all EVFs and LCDs on consumer camcorders display color although some video enthusiasts prefer black-and-white EVFs which can make it easier to judge exposure. Touch-screen LCDs have begun to appear on a few consumer video cameras usually for menu navigation and spot focusing. Some users find them convenient while others prefer not to have to use the LCD to access camcorder controls.

JVC GRD90 MiniDV Camcorder with 3.5" LCD 16x Optical Zoom 8MB and MMC

Looking for a versatile camcorder that makes shooting great home movies super-simple? JVC's GR-D90 combines Mini DV's gorgeous video quality the photo-snapping ability of a digital camera and lots of features that make it really easy to use. The LCD viewscreen is one element that helps make newer camcorders so user-friendly — you get a nice view of your subject for recording and what you've taped is readily visible on playback. Most Mini DV cams come equipped with a 2-1/2" viewscreen (measured diagonally) but the GR-D90's viewscreen measures 3-1/2". That may not sound like a big difference but it actually amounts to almost twice the screen size! Other conveniences that allow for easy filming include Digital Image Stabilization to prevent shakiness 16X optical zoom for great close-ups and Night-Alive mode for taping full-color video in low light. And of course since the 'D90 captures your videos digitally you can easily transfer movies to your compatible PC or Mac® using the cam's i.LINK™ jack. After that use separate software to trim or rearrange scenes and add effects! Interested in snapping still images? The included 8MB MultiMediaCard® will store between 24 and 190 photos depending on resolution. Use the included USB interface to transfer those pictures to your computer for editing e-mailing or posting online! Learn more at Crutchfield.com.

4 star... not 1 star4

Russian Texan's 1 star rating needs to be corrected. Just because the USER doesn't know how transfer video to pc via USB... doesn't make the GRDX-97 a 1 star camcorder. If Russian Texan's is using XP there is no need to install driver. Plug in USB cable to camcorder plug USB into pc turn on camcorder USB Mass Storage Device Manager will recognize new hardware. No need to purchase firewire cable.More detail ...

JVC GRH-D1 High Definition MiniDV Camcorder w/10x Optical Zoom

Would be Good if it worked1

I bought this camcorder on September 28 2003 when it was still fairly new on the market and more expensive than it is now. By July 2004 both the LCD screen and the viewfinder just went black. No image but I was still able to record audio. I reported it to JVC. They told me I had to send it in for repair which I did. It seems that this was a common problem. They didn't ask too many questions. The warranty had already expired so I had to pay a couple hundred dollars. Six months later the same problem again. I called JVC again and told them the problem. The technician who attended to me suggested that I turn it off and disconnect all power for about an hour and then try again because "that usually works." Now what kind of advice is that? I need this camera to shoot footage of events. What am I supposed to do each time this happens? Turn it off for an hour and ask the event organisers to postpone their events for an hour? Anyway even that super solution didn't work so I called again and they said I had to send it in for repair again. So I asked would I have to be sending this camera in to you every six months? "No" she responded but "thank you for calling JVC."

The words I would like to use to describe this camera and JVC cannot be expressed here but do not buy this camera!!! For the short period of time that it did work it was great but I will never buy this or any other JVC product ever again.

I thought about fixing it and then selling it used but then my conscience wouldn't let me pass this problem on to someone else. So I decided to write this review.More detail ...

JVC GRDVL720U MiniDV Digital Camcorder with 3.5" LCD and 8MB SD Memory Card

What a deal!!5

I got this Camcorder on a Goldbox deal and after all was said and done it was hundreds less than any other store! The camcorder is great I had to purchase a firewire adapter for my computer but it was worth the additional investment. I upgraded to Windows XP Plus! digital edition and found video editing was simple and the camcorder was completely compatible. The battery that it comes with does not last very long (about an hour without the light on). I invested ...and purchased a longer life battery. The still photo function was easy to use but the quality was less that 1 megapixel. Overall a great camcorder!!!More detail ...

JVC GRD90 MiniDV Camcorder with 3.5" LCD 16x Optical Zoom 8MB and MMC

Almost Perfect...For The Price5

The JVC GRD90 is overall a pretty good MiniDV camcorder. If you already know a lot about camcorders skip to paragraph 2. If you are new to this area continue reading below.

1--If you're looking for a video camera that you can use to edit video on your PC or MAC then you need a digital camcorder that is IEEE-1394 compliant. You don't have to worry about remembering that though...an easy name to remember is FireWire. This peticular camcorder meets those standards. Another thing you want to look for is Pixels...in this case the higher the number the higher the quality of the camera. This camera has decent video quality. However especially when indoors this camera's video image can get a bit grainy. If you are looking for a camera that has really good quality I'd recommend something like the JVC GR-DV500. If you are simply looking for a digital video camera that will record Sally's band concert then this is the camera for you. (Proceed to Paragraph 3)

2--this camera is IEEE-1394 compliant making it suitable for video editing. However it only has 680000 pixels (0.68 megapixels) so if you are looking for a high-quality camcorder I'd recommend shopping around for a camera with a least 1.0 megapixels. The DV port accepts both input and output which will probably come in handy at some point in time. This is not a professional camcorder so I do not recommend buying this is you are a professional videographer. If your budget is limited however this will do for your basic fliming and editing needs. (Proceed to Paragraph 3)

3--Another great feature that pros and amatures alike will enjoy is the big 3.5 inch screen. You might be thinking '3.5 inches? That's tiny!'...however you'll come to find that 3.5 inches is quite large for a camcorder LCD screen. Overall this is a pretty good digital video camera it's only major flaw being that some indoor shots may look incredibly bad. This camcorder is almost perfect...for the price.More detail ...
